The Football College is an outstanding and unique learning opportunity and environment for students/school leavers 16-19 who have a passion for sport and especially football. The students will receive a first class education along with the best opportunities to thrive in football and the industries that surround it. The Football College is located at the heart of Bury town centre, walking distance from the interchange for both metro link and buses making it accessible for all, both in Bury and the surrounding boroughs of Greater Manchester. We pride ourselves on developing both the student and the player/athlete. This is evident from the success of our students progressing into Semi Professional and Professional Football along with students progressing in their education to University, apprenticeships and employment.

The Football College is supported in achieving its goals by creating a truly unique learning environment for its students, custom designed and executed taking inspiration from elite environments across both Football and Education. With dedicated match analysis suites, lecture theatre, education suites and boardroom students will be inspired to maximise their potential across both fields.

Our Courses

The Football College offers two courses:

Pearson BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Sport
Pearson BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Sports Coaching & Development (2019) (Equivalent to 3 A levels)*

*All assessments are coursework based

Performance Analysis - As a student at The Football College you are provided with opportunities to develop your skills in performance analysis. This involves operating on a number of platforms such as; IMovie /Microsoft Powerpoint & Excel / InPlaySports and Wyscout. In addition to gaining this knowledge you are given access to professional and semi-professional clubs where you can put your new skills to use.

How Are Courses Delivered?

Courses are delivered by fully qualified staff across both Education and Footballing (UEFA) environments. Both Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications are delivered in a state of the art facility in the centre of Bury. The theory aspects of the course are delivered on site at The Football College in the traditional way, however rather than using a paper based system students work on laptops (provided by The Football College) and through a revolutionary platform, designed and developed to assist the needs of the students. This system also ensures student success is safeguarded should a pandemic incident occur again in the future.

Students are provided with various learning environments where they are able to enhance their knowledge and skills. For example presentations, group discussions, peer working and independent study are all fundamental to learning in both Education and Football.

In addition to academic delivery, EVERY student undertakes 6 hours per week of Professional Football coaching and competes within a competitive league system at varying levels. The Player Pathway Programme which is overseen by The Football College Director of Football ensures that every player can access opportunities to progress at various levels of the game even up to the EFL should their ability warrant it. The PPP also operates with multiple club partners ensuring that an individual's progression/pathway is not blocked by any one individual.

COVID Information

Due to our state of-the-art learning technology (The Sports Brain) utilised by our teaching staff we have the ability to transfer to a virtual online / live stream delivery model at the flick of the switch. This enabled us to safeguard the success and retention of all our students during lockdown as well as provide peace of mind for all new students and parents into the future. In addition this technology incorporated practical/physical delivery ensuring the fitness and mental health of all our student athletes.
